This was the second attempt I made on No Repeat Performances in the Archive
Room. This time the EQ on the vocal is much more apparent, but later on I
determined that the input gain made an unnatural filter sound on it, being
turned up too high. It added an unsettling feeling in the vocal that is
apparent in the performances, too (which aren't great).
Guitar is a shadow of what it should sound like.
I had now switched to an alternative Plate reverb that sounded similar to the
Room but it hadn't been dialed in to taste yet (not enough).
The car test was an F and this is when I started to really grasp that ATH-M50x
headphones really hype the low end and one must be careful not to be too
attached to that, as it doesn't translate. So the take can feel full of energy
when tracking, but not on other systems on playback. It was depressing for a
second knowing that I had a true engineering problem on my hands, leading to
other ideas, like not singing and playing at the same time with mics that might
have phase problems and the like.
These 4 tracks are no bueno. Guitar is sounding really filtered in a bad way,
even though the Pultecs were blaring! I think the 3rd mic was doing bad things!
The Vistas has some blunderous blunders!
Also, all these tracks are recorded too soft.
