Hope is restored!

A number of cool things happened on this recording.

Me and EJ put the stereo mics back about 2 feet from the original location and
baffled them from behind. This took some of the undesirable room sound away,
but left some life. Then we ditched the 3rd mic solution for a Shure KSM141
tracked separately from the guitar. This made for a more nuanced performance.

I have a good print with the KSM141. There is mild compression and very mild
EQ, with the input gain problem fixed. There is a sharp bite to the vocal at
times and a similar sharp attack on the guitar that need to get smoothed out
to be acceptable, but there is a lot of character coming through that wasn't in
either of the earlier takes. Amazingly, there is zero EQ on the guitar. Maybe
the engineers are right: before you EQ, get the mic placement right!

There's a lot more reverb on everything now, which is what I prefer, but I don't
think we've got it where we need it yet.

Contrasting this sound to 2025-09-01 is rather interesting.
